Salutations and Celebrations

So I'm reading further updates on the Monash shooting, and I pick out familiar names. A bit of a relief to find out that I don't recognise any of the names of the victims... I know it doesn't discount the tragedy in any way, but it does lessen the impact personally.

But I do recognise the name Brett Inder - he taught me Statistics in my first year. I really liked him - he actually made me enjoy the subject, which is really something big to say for a subject consisting mainly of numbers, formulae and curvy lines drawn on axes. He made the silliest jokes (I'm a sucker for those :P), always dressed down, and if my ailing memory serves me correctly - even made mention of God and Christianity every now and then in his lectures.

Too bad I didn't continue on pursuing a major in numbers - not really my forte, as the TK maths teachers would attest to. Maybe that's one reason why I liked Brett so much - he actually encouraged me to take a major in econometrics. Maybe it's all in the spirit of encouragement and guidance and everything, but it was nice still.

Not that the above ramblings have any particular relevance to anything... guess I just like to blab. :)

Other thoughts - heard that Mel's birthday celebration was a blast. They actually went for KTV leh... hahaha. What I'd give to hear the bunch doing drunken croonings into microphones. 'parently we even have a Texas Lone Ranger crooner in the group. Ohhhhhh, to hear it myself. Wonder if I know anyone in Singapore that can deliver an equally good version. Hmm. =)

Oh, and that the birthday boy got drunk too. ;) This is doubly funny, as he told me earlier in the day that he'd allow no such thing to happen - and that all he'd drink for the night would be a glass of red wine. Blah. And if people can say that his performance that night can top even Lem's birthday antics - that's really saying something. ;) And I missed it!

Happy Birthday, Mel... wish I was there. Then we could finally fulfil that drinking match thing. Another year, k? :)
